Charl ‘Babyboy’ Pilwan
Born in South Africa, Charl ‘BabyBoy’ Pilwan is the youngest of five children and was raised in the infamous Cape Flats of Cape Town.
In 1999 Charl moved to the U.K. where he studied music and theatre at St John The Baptist College in Woking, Surrey, before completing a diploma in music, music business and sound engineering at PROMPT - Professional Music, Performance and Technology.
A regular club performer in the UK, Charl was inspired by a chance meeting with English R&B singer-songwriter Craig David who encouraged him to start writing his own material.
In 2004, Charl made a move to Asia performing across the region in countries as diverse as Japan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Indonesia. A brief return to the UK in 2005, saw him embark on a solo career under the name Choklit Soul, releasing his first solo single “Please Forgive Me’ in 2006 and a debut album “Changing Planes’ in 2008.
Dividing his time between Europe the U.S. and Asia, in 2006, Charl formed ‘BabyBoy Entertainment’ recruiting recording artists around the world whilst developing and forming new band projects. In early 2009, Charl formed a new band of his own – The Mark Chapil Project - a heady mix of South African, U.S. and Columbian musicians and is rapidly gaining an international reputation with an eclectic blend of R&B, Funk & Soul.
